PAC took a small group
(11- the smallest group among the top 5) of senior swimmers to the
Washington State Open this past weekend in Federal Way, WA and
finished 5th overall (over 40 teams- we were behind KING, MHA,
CAST- Idaho, and SAS- Spokane). Our seniors were coming off
hard training, school finals, numerous high school meets, illness,
etc. and swam extremely well at a prelims- finals meet! Some
of our swimmers competed 15 or more times over four days of
swimming. For example on Saturday, Dana Emerson swam three
individual events in prelims and made finals in all of his
events. In finals he competed in a relay to start of them
night, then had three indidual races which were back to back.
So, he had four races in 45 minutes. Then Dan had a 30 minute
break and swam in our 800 Free relay, which won from lane
one!
This meet was a great
mental and physical challenge for our PAC swimmers. They were
no where near rested for the meet and they swam extremely well (our
training has intensified over the last week). We had over
thirty best times, tons of second swims (final swims) and won the
boys 800 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay! So, this meet was a
great test for high school districts, state, and our upcoming
Sectional meets!
In addition Alex Johnson
made his first senior sectional cut in the 1650 free with the help
of Dan Volker, who swam next to him the race and pushed him to the
cut (Dan just missed it, but has the long course cut). What
great teamwork!
Other outstanding
performances were turned in by Jessica Bottelberghe breaking her
own 100 Back record with a 58.15 and placing among the top 24 (top
24 compete in finals) in all 8 of her races (she was top three in
three events)! Her sister, Monica placed among the top 24 in
two events and broke 1:00.00 in the 100 Fly for the first
time! Dana Emerson competed in all six of his races and had
two best times. Henry Fellows competed in finals in all six
of his races and had 100% best times. Alex Johnson had five
best times, a senior sectional cut and had three finals (11th place
in the 1650)! Robert Macy had four best times and one
final. Aaron Reynolds had one best time. Brandon Risley
had three best times. Daniel Volker had three best times and
one final and a 13th place finish in the 1650. Finally, Max
Yakubovich had three best times and placed among the top 24 in four
events! Way to go PAC!
